Couples can get married for just $14 this Thursday, and it’s all in the name of love.
“Valentine’s Day is a day for lovers to celebrate how much they love each other,” Alan Katz, presiding officiant at the Cute Little Wedding Chapel, said. “So we thought, what better way to celebrate that than to offer a deal like this, $14 on Feb. 14.”
Katz has been marrying couples for more than 10 years at the Cute Little Wedding Chapel. The chapel’s first location was downtown at the historic Breakers building, and when that building had to be vacated, the operations moved to North Long Beach.
“It’s my way to give something back to Long Beach. I love this city” he said. “So I hope to see plenty of people take advantage of the deal.”
The discounted price covers the chapel’s $209 package, Katz said. That includes a short ceremony with up to four guests. Additional guests are allowed, but for an extra fee. Small children will not be counted as a guest because “if they can sit on your lap, then they don’t count (as one of the paid guests).”
Couples also have their choice of an officiant, with Christian ministers, Catholic priests, rabbis and nondenominational officiants in house.
But one item the price does not cover is the wedding license. Couples can bring their wedding license with them, or one can be issued to them for an additional fee.
And the $14 price tag is just symbolic.
“It’s supposed to be a fun thing for people to say something like ‘Oh, I got married for $14 on February 14,'” he said. “Not everyone needs a big wedding, and that’s what I do, I help make the moment memorable.”
Katz isn’t new to putting on a show, he said. He’s been in show business since he was a teenager, and it’s in his nature to put on a show no matter where he is, he added.
“I made my first television appearance when I was 16,” he said. “I’ve been in commercials, movies and I have a singing telegram business. It’s what I do.”
He has also made appearances in the television shows “90-Day-Fiance” and “Say Yes To The Dress,” as well as other wedding-themed shows.
“I’ve won every award that the wedding industry has to offer,” he said. “Being a part of the television side only shows you how much enthusiasm I have for this.”
And as for offering a holiday package that’s about 94 percent off the regular package price, he said that at the end of the day, he’s doing it for love.
“If I have learned anything, it’s that love is the greatest equalizer,” he said. “There’s no other feeling like falling in love, being in love, nothing like it.”
The $14 Valentine’s Deal will be available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Cute Little Wedding Chapel, 3740 Atlantic Ave. Suite 201.
Walk-ins are welcome, but if a wedding license will be needed, advance notice is required as Katz said that he does expect the day to be slightly busier than usual.
Additionally, the chapel does facilitate weddings 24 hours a day and will permit the Valentine’s Deal outside of the hours listed — but for an additional fee. Call (562) 435-4000 for more information or go to cutelittleweddingchapel.com.
