Viewers have adored watching Matt and Amy Roloff on Little People, Big World for years. Both stars have dwarfism, but they never let their condition get in the way of their marriage, family, or business life, as viewers have seen them successfully raise four children and maintain their thriving Roloff Farms. It was all well and good for Matt and Amy for years, but sadly for fans, their relationship came to a halt in 2016 when they divorced.
The divorce seemed to hit them both hard, and Amy hasn’t been shy about sharing how difficult it was for her to see her husband date Caryn Chandler, an employee on their farm. At one point, Amy even said she’d never date again — and here’s the real reason why.
Amy never thought a person of average size would be interested in her
Divorce is difficult for any family, but it appeared to seriously affect Amy. She and Matt were married for about 30 years, and post-divorce, they still were working on the family farm together, making matters even more difficult. And back in 2015 when Matt and Amy were planning on going through with the divorce proceedings, Amy said she’d never date again. “That ain’t happenin. Not on the radar right now,” People reports she said. Amy also added, “I don’t think anyone would be really interested,” whereas Matt sounded like he was more open to giving a relationship a try.
So, why was Amy so quick to shut down the idea of dating again or anyone being interested in her? People reports she thought her size would be a barrier. As she said in a clip of LPBW, “I just never thought someone who is average size would be interested in me.” We know now that her promise of never dating again was short-lived, however, as she began dating her current boyfriend, Chris Marek, in 2017. “I just really want him to never question or doubt the relationship because I’m a little person,” she also commented.
She’s been dating Chris for 2 years, and he doesn’t mind her dwarfism at all
Amy may have been burned by the divorce, but her experience of dating Chris has been nothing short of amazing for her. CafeMom reminds us of the time Amy went to a painting singles mixer, and she started to get back into the swing of flirting with other men. After that, she then reconnected with Chris, who she saw briefly at the mixer and connected with prior to that event. Chris asked Amy on a motorcycle date — and the rest is history, as they’ve been together ever since.
Amy had doubts that Chris would be interested in her because she’s a little person, People notes. But when Amy asked him how he felt about her size, he said other peoples’ comments never bothered him at all — and he clearly loves Amy just the way she is. As Amy said, “I just have a good time. I have fun with him. I never thought I’d be dating as a grandma, and it’s nice to experience that and be with someone.”
Could wedding bells be in their future?
We’re all wishing the best for Amy and Chris — and many fans even think a wedding could be in their future. Amy even sparked rumors of an engagement when she posted this photo to her Instagram. The photo depicts her and Chris under the tiny Roloff Farms chapel — and eagle-eyed fans know this is the exact place her children have married their loved ones. As one of her followers commented, “You are getting him closer Amy!” And others even questioned if Chris popped the question yet.
So far, it seems there have only been rumors of an engagement instead of anything set in stone. But Amy and Chris seem totally smitten with each other — and while she may have said she’d never enter another relationship in the past, we can totally see her having another wedding now.
