A YOUTUBE teenage power couple have been slammed online after pretending to tie the knot in Las Vegas and staging a pregnancy.
Social media stars Danielle Cohn, 15, and Mikey Tua, 16, filmed a four part series on one another’s YouTube channels earlier this week documenting their whirlwind wedding and pregnancy announcement.
In an attempt to boost their views, the couple – who have a combined following of 1.4 million subscribers – staged their Las Vegas wedding and then announced that 15-year-old Dani was pregnant.
After an Elvis impersonator “wed” the couple – a ceremony which Dani’s mother told Buzzfeed News was the two “making a promise” as her daughter is too young to be legally married – Dani and Mikey filmed themselves at their 12-week scan where they had their first “ultrasound”.
To round the bizarre series off, the American social media stars – who have been dating for a year – then threw themselves a “gender reveal” party where they informed their guests that it had all been an elaborate prank.
Despite filling balloons with pink confetti – which would suggest they were having a girl – Dani read out a note to guests and said: “I’m not actually pregnant, okay?”
Admitting that the entire facade had been part of an elaborate prank, Dani admitted that she “didn’t think it was going to go as far as it did” and the pair simply “thought it would be fun to prank you guys”.
Meanwhile, Mickey then felt the need to tell his viewers to use contraception as “teen pregnancy is extremely serious.”
Although Dani has pledged to donate a portion of the profits she makes from the series to the charity Planned Parenthood, unimpressed viewers were quick to label the series a “publicity stunt”.
Speaking from experience, one frustrated user wrote: “I would do anything to be pregnant as many women out there who are struggling with serious issues.
“Whether it’s infertility, miscarriages, still births – so many awful situations and you’re joking about it!
“You should be ashamed, as should the adults around you. Grow up.”
Another wrote: “This is so rude and disrespectful to those who cannot have children.
“Pranks are fun and okay, just not with serious situations like this. Pregnancy isn’t a joke.”
