Mary Claire Miller and Walker Cox’s stories are wholly intertwined. They were high school sweethearts at Mountain Brook High School, and they remained a couple when they attended the University of Alabama together. Then, on a sunny Saturday in November 2018, they committed to forever.

After graduating from the University of Alabama, Walker moved to Nashville while Mary Claire returned home to Birmingham. It was the first time they’d been away from each other in the nearly six years since they began dating, but the distance didn’t pull them apart. On an otherwise unremarkable night, Walker, who had returned to Birmingham for a visit, took Mary Claire to dinner at Chez Fonfon, her favorite restaurant. While they chatted and waited for their table at the bar, Mary Claire texted with a friend and made plans to meet up with her after dinner. But Walker suggested they go home first instead.

“So after dinner, we went back to my house, and as I was unlocking the door, Walker got down on one knee and popped the question,” says Mary Claire. After she replied with an enthusiastic “yes,” the stunning couple headed over to Walker’s parents’ house where both families and many close friends were waiting to celebrate. “My best friend even flew in from Dallas to surprise me,” adds Mary Claire. “It was the best night!”

As she began the wedding planning process, Mary Claire knew that her top priorities were a ceremony that was special and meaningful, and a reception that would be a blast for everyone in attendance. “We wanted it to be one big party where people danced the night away and just had fun,” says Mary Claire. And for the fun-focused reception, there could be no better spot in Birmingham than The Club. “There is no view in Birmingham like the one at The Club, so that sold me!” she says.

For the ceremony, Mary Claire and Walker easily selected the bride’s beautiful home church, Covenant Presbyterian Church, as it was the place Mary Claire always pictured herself walking down the aisle.

Mary Claire wore the wedding dress her older sister had worn on her wedding day five years earlier, with just a little tweaking thanks to the team at Carriage House. For her something blue, she had both her initials and her sister’s initials sewn into the skirt of the dress with a pretty blue thread.

How stunning is this bride? Mary Claire’s classic wedding-day look included a gorgeous, white lace gown, long tulle veil and an all-white round bouquet.

A self-professed lover of neutrals, Mary Claire elected to keep the palette for the day classic and refined. She dressed her bridal party in an elegant shade of dove gray, and they carried bouquets from Wild Things that were comprised of white blooms and greenery with pops of blush for added dimension. “I am a neutral girl, but I also wanted to add a pop of color to our day,” says Mary Claire. “I chose blush because it is close to being neutral, but it also adds that little pop.”

Meanwhile, the bride wore a white lace gown complete with a sweetheart bodice, elegant illusion neckline and long, trailing veil. She also opted for an all-white bouquet featuring the stunning textures of garden roses, ranunculus and hydrangeas. For the guys, black tuxedos and bow ties captured the sophisticated look Mary Claire was going for.

Walker and Mary Claire began dating during their junior year at Mountain Brook High School. They became engaged eight years later, so this sweet day was a long time coming for these two.

Mary Claire is a lover of neutral shades, and her bridesmaids are exquisite in their dove gray gowns. For a touch of color, blush-colored blooms and greenery fill out their white bouquets and complete the look.

With the fall trees changing colors behind them, this photo could not be more perfect.

As guests started to gather in the sanctuary at Covenant Presbyterian Church on November 10, 2018, Mary Claire started to feel her anxiety rising. But the moment the doors swung open and she walked down the aisle on her father’s arm, she felt all of her nerves melt away. “That probably sounds a little cheesy, but I was extremely relaxed during the ceremony,” says Mary Claire. “It will be a moment I remember for the rest of my life!”

Mary Claire’s uncle officiated the ceremony that Mary Claire and Walker carefully planned as a celebration of both marriage and their faith. They exchanged traditional vows, and with a kiss and a walk back up the aisle, the bride and groom were officially Mr. and Mrs.

While growing up attending Covenant Presbyterian Church, Mary Claire always envisioned herself getting married in the church’s sanctuary. On November 10, 2018, she did just that.

Is there a better backdrop than downtown Birmingham? The bride and groom selected The Club as the setting for their reception, in part, for the stunning views from the venue. They certainly do not disappoint!

The celebration at The Club was one that no one in attendance will soon forget. Guests gathered to enjoy a meal filled with fall favorites including a sweet potato bar and the groom’s only request: chicken fingers. The bride and groom danced to “Stand By Me” and cut into their gorgeous five-tier wedding cake bedecked with blooms before hitting the dance floor.

Under a shower of rose petals, the new Mr. and Mrs. Walker exited their reception and drove off into the night.

Looking back on her wedding day, Mary Claire has some words of wisdom to share with other brides-to-be: “Don’t worry about the small things,” she says. “Think about the big picture, and remember this is about you and the person you are marrying. In the end, all the fluff really doesn’t matter. Your guests will only remember if there was food, drinks and a band at the end of the day!”

The bride and groom share their first dance to “Stand By Me.” “We have experienced several milestones together through high school, college and early adulthood, and we have always been right by each other’s side,” says Mary Claire. “So we felt [the song] was appropriate.”
