IT’S without a doubt the most important piece of jewellery you’ll ever own – so it’s only natural that some women like their engagement ring to have special, personalised detail.
But while it’s pretty standard practice for couples to engrave the date they got engaged on the band of the ring, one bride-to-be has taken matters to new extremes by combining her and her fiance’s birthstones in one, erm, unique design.
Sharing her exciting news with her Facebook friends, the woman shared a photo of her ring with the caption: “His birthstone and my birthstone.”
The ring itself consists of two heart-shaped jewels: a red garnet for January next to a topaz for November.
Regardless of what you might think if the idea, it’s the execution (and the unfortunate colour combination) that’s caused a stir on social media.
Posting an image of the ring on the That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming Facebook group, one unimpressed user invited the group’s 98,000 members to pass judgement on the design.
And it wasn’t long until people compared the ring to “ketchup and mustard”.
Taking one look at the design, one joked: “Suddenly I’m craving burgers…”
Another added: “If McDonald’s made engagement rings.”
Based on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts house colours, a third replied: “I hope you’re a Gryffindor.”
Labelling it a “cute idea”, one user wrote: “Horrible way to display it!”
