CHARLES Bronson’s ex-wife will be laid to rest on her 39th birthday as her new lover said he would “welcome” the notorious con to her funeral, the Sun Online can reveal.
Paula Williamson was discovered by her boyfriend Peter Jones, 53, on her bed after he fell asleep on the downstairs sofa following a night out.
The truck driver called emergency services but former Corrie actress Paula, 38, could not be saved by paramedics.
She was pronounced her dead at 7am on Monday morning.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
The tragedy came just hours after 66-year-old Bronson – one of the country’s most notorious prisoners – revealed he wants to wed again.
This week Bronson reportedly voiced hopes of being released from prison to attend Paula’s funeral.
Mr Jones said he would be open to Bronson being among the guests at the service to say goodbye.
He said: “I would welcome him.”
Any prisoner can apply for a special purposes licence to leave jail for a maximum of four nights for a funeral, marriage or medical treatment.
BURIED ON HER BIRTHDAY
Mr Jones hopes to lay his lover to rest on what would have been her 39th birthday, on August 19.
Speaking to the Sun Online, the truck driver said Paula had been hoping to celebrate the occasion with a big barbecue bash.
He added: “I was going to buy her some jewellery and a ring.”
He is hoping authorities will complete their post-mortem – which hopes to find answers as to how the young woman died – in time to allow her to be buried in two weeks.
He said: “We’re hoping to bury her on the day of her birthday.”
‘RESPECT’ FOR NOTORIOUS CON
Mr Jones revealed how the couple had kept their relationship quiet, with Paula wanting to let Bronson know she had a new man in her life out of respect to him.
He said: “Before we announced to everybody, she wanted to tell Charlie about me first, out of respect, which I completely agreed with.
“If Charlie wanted to meet me, I would quite happily visit.
“He always said to Paula – good luck in life and I hope you find someone who will be able to look after you properly.
“Paula always thought it might be nice for me and him to meet, so he could see that she had met a genuine man who she loved very much.
“Charlie being her ex didn’t bother me. I can’t fault him, he was never nasty. I’d like to think we could’ve become friends.
“The first person she wanted to tell about us getting married was Charlie. I had respect for him.”
LIFELESS BODY IN BED
Mr Jones told of the moment he found her lifeless body at her home in Stoke.
He said: “She got home and had a nightcap with me and then went up to bed.
“The way she was lying on her right side across the bed meant I couldn’t get in.
“At 12:55 I asked if she was coming down. I gave her a kiss, stroked her hair, said ‘I love you’ and she said ‘you too’. I left her and fell asleep on the sofa downstairs.
“I came upstairs at 6am and found her. My initials thoughts were ‘what’s happened here?’
Britain’s most notorious lag – how Bronson gained his grisly nickname
Armed robber Bronson has spent more than 44 years behind bars after repeatedly having his sentence increased for attacking prison staff and taking them hostage.
Writing in his 2000 book Bronson, he said: “I’m a nice guy, but sometimes I lose all my senses and become nasty. That doesn’t make me evil, just confused”.
He was first sentenced to seven years in jail over an armed robbery in 1974.
That was extended by nine months after he attacked a fellow prisoner with a glass jug.
He was then given an extra year in jail for holding a three-day rooftop protest that cost £100,000 in damages.
After a brief stint of freedom, he was found guilty of intent to robbery and sentenced to eight years in 1992.
His sentence was extended by eight years after he held a prison staff member hostage.
He again became involved in a hostage situation, which again resulted in a sentence extension.
He was finally given a life sentence after kidnapping a prison teacher in 1999, with the violent lag investigated for a number of other disturbances since, including allegedly throwing a bottle of human waste at a Muslim prisoner.
“I panicked and knew something was wrong. I was across the floor to the bed in a millisecond. She was lying on her back. Her hair was the same as I’d left it.
“She was cold. I was concerned with waking her up. I kissed her on her neck like she used to love. I gently shook her arm then her leg.
“Then I started to panic, I couldn’t wake her.
“I could see she wasn’t breathing. I was desperate to wake her up. I was trying for…I don’t know how long, maybe 10 minutes, but nothing happened.
“I called the ambulance. They arrived within minutes. On the phone they told me to do CPR. But she wouldn’t wake up.”
Paying tribute to the former actress Mr Jones said: “She was my world, my life. I don’t stop remembering her. I’ve been crying for hours at a time in her room.
“It was a very intimate, strong love. Going to sleep next to her, waking up next to her and coming home to her was amazing.”
Mr Jones and Paula had been planning on tying the knot in the Bahamas – even setting aside this Saturday to leaf through wedding brochures to start planning their big day.
The couple had started dating in February but Mr Jones said they had fallen madly in love. He even got a tattoo showing the couple’s initials intertwined.
CON TO MARRY AGAIN
Convicted robber Bronson has spent the majority of the past four decades imprisoned for a series of violent crimes.
On Monday it was revealed he is to marry again after striking up a romance with a woman of 63 called Joan. It will be his fourth marriage.
He told The Sun: “My Joan comes from the same era and likes all the same things as me. We’re traditional and have the same style and attitudes. She’s stunning.
“There’s not a 33-year-old bird out there who’s fit to clean her shoes.”
Bronson wed Paula in November 2017 at Wakefield Prison but they split last July when it was revealed a man had put his face between her breasts in a holiday prank.

Bronson, who wed Paula at HMP Wakefield in 2017, last year made a haunting prediction she would die if she didn’t sort herself out.
Paula admitted on Loose Women she had an alcohol and prescription medication problem.
She later said she had depression, anxiety and borderline personality disorder.
Bronson is said to be “shocked and upset” by Paula’s death.
He is said to have spoken to his best man Rod Harrison at HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes, where he is now held.
Staffordshire Police confirmed there will be a post mortem examination.
